wind names
I did not know that there are so many names for different winds in the world. Here, I googled it (maybe it will be useful for someone to use it in the name of the sailboat):
Abrolhos is a violent squall that blows off the southeast coast of Brazil from May to August.
Alizé - also known as the trade wind blows in the tropics mainly from the northeast in the Northern Hemisphere and from the southeast in the Southern Hemisphere.
Bora is a gusty wind that blows in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, Greece, as well as in Russia and Turkey during the winter.
Brickfielder is a hot and dry wind that blows across the South Australian desert during the summer season.
Calima is a dusty wind originating in the Sahara that blows in the Canary Islands in winter.
Cers is a fairly rough, dry northerly or northwesterly wind that blows in southwestern France, near the Gulf of Lion.
Chinook is a katabatic dry wind (falling wind directed down the slopes of the mountains to the earth's surface) that occurs in the snows of the Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada.
Diablo is a hot, dry offshore wind that blows off the coast of San Francisco during the spring and fall.
Etesian is a strong dry northerly Aegean wind that blows from about mid-May to mid-September off the coast of Greece and Turkey.
Föhn - katabatic dry mountain wind that can quickly raise air temperature; blows from the Alps to Central Europe.
Halny is a subspecies of the Föhn wind; blows in Southern Poland and Slovakia; can destroy roofs and cause avalanches.
Hamsin is a dry, hot and dusty local wind that blows across North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula between March and May.
Harmattan is a dry and dusty trade wind in West Africa, blowing from the south of the Sahara into the Gulf of Guinea from November to March; causes haze in the sky.
Helm is a strong northeasterly wind that blows in Cumbria, England.
Levante is a warm east/northeast wind that blows in the Alboran Sea and passes through the Strait of Gibraltar; strong Levante winds produce a heavy swell on the sea.
The Mistral is a strong, cold and generally dry regional wind that blows in the southeastern region of France and the entire Mediterranean Sea.
Monsoon (monsoon) is a steady seasonal wind that brings rain to South Asia.
Pampero is a strong squally wind in Argentina and Uruguay that blows from October to January; brings a significant drop in temperature, heavy rains, thunderstorms and is accompanied by cold, dry, gusty winds.
Santa Ana is a hot, dry east or northeast wind blowing from a pass in the Santa Ana River Valley in Southern California; very common in Los Angeles, also known as Sundowner.
Simoom is a strong, stuffy, dry dusty wind that blows in the Sahara, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Syria and the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula.
Sirocco is a Mediterranean wind that comes from the Sahara and reaches hurricane speeds in North Africa and Southern Europe.
Tramontana - cold wind from the north or northeast with cold air from the Alps and Northern Apennines; blows mainly on the western coast of Italy and in northern Corsica.
Vendaval - strong, wet and damp southwesterly wind associated with cyclonic activity in the Iberian Peninsula; blows during the wet winter season, from November to April, and is accompanied by a strong squall and thunder.
Zonda - hot wind on the eastern slopes of the Andes in central Argentina; starts in the afternoon, blowing from May to November.
