Dzharylgach - island of wild nature
Dzharylgach is an island around which there are many legends and tales. Some of them are invented by enterprising tour operators, while others were born from telling each other. To find the truth, you had to go there yourself.
The island lies in the south of Ukraine, Kherson region. You can get to it from the city of Skadovsk. Or from Azure, if you want to get to the western part of the island, which is a sandy spit. Often, everyone chooses the central part, and most boats and sailboats go here. Here, enterprising businessmen organized a small sub-station, proudly calling it the Ukrainian Maldives. Of course, naive people are tempted by stories about amazing beaches where dolphins splash in warm and clear waters. This is partlytrue, but tour operators are silent about the fact that the island is quite large and here is a real kingdom of wildlife. Based on this, in order to see wild animals in their natural environment, you need a little more than just taking a boat to the island ...
Having previously studied the area with the help of geographical maps, the flora and fauna of the island, I set off. I had to spend three days here, offline… The equipment was chosen based on the conditions of stay on the island at this time of the year. In addition, there was an acute issue with fresh water. Luckily, there are four springs on the island where you can replenish your supplies. Unfortunately, many people who decide to go deep into the island carelessly ignore this moment ... On the way I met one such group of vacationers who are banalo got lost and were without a daily supply of water. I had to explain to them intelligibly what such searches for the sea with dolphins are fraught with. What is the island of Dzharylgach? It is the largest island in terms of area and the second longest (after Tendrovskaya Spit) in Ukraine and the Black Sea. It is washed by Karkinit Bay and Dzharylgach Bay. The area is 62 km². The Dzharylgach National Natural Park, established in 2009, is located on the island. The length of the island is 42 km (the main part is 23 km, the narrow part is 19 km), the maximum width is 4.8 km. All coasts of the islandbelong to the accumulative type. The highest point is 2.8 m. The shores of the island are located - 0.4 m above sea level. The average height of the island: from -0.4 to 0.5 m above sea level.
On this vast territory there is an amazing world of wildlife. Never in my life have I seen such a variety of living organisms in one place. In addition, in their natural environment ... In some places it was even scary when you go out along a narrow path to the salt marsh, you meet face to face with a deer or a mouflon.
The southern coast of the island is washed by the open Black Sea with a soft sandy beach. Almost the entire coastline is clean, in some places you can find alluvial sea grass that rots, emitting a terrible smell. In some places there are places where algae thrown out by a storm and snags form fantastic landscapes. Under the hot rays of the sun, the warm sea is literally teeming with jellyfish of the Cornerot detachment. You can rarely see Aurelia. For humans, they do not pose a particular danger, although contact with bare skin is unpleasant. Here you can also meet delphnew I was lucky to spend a day exploring the southern part of the island during the day, I saw them many times. Once a common dolphin swam very close, jumping out of the water, as if inviting them to swim next to it. Amazing beautiful sight…
On the eastern side of the island, there is a lighthouse. Or rather, there are two of them - one old, which they say was designed by Gustave Eiffel himself, and a new one. There is also a source of artesian wells with clean fresh water. These two factors have made this place a small resort where crowds of vacationers are brought. Fortunately, they do not need anything other than tracking the sides and further than a hundred meters from the sea, they do not go.
Here you can admire the beautiful bay and the elegance of the old lighthouse. Alas, time and the environment are merciless to him ... I think a little time will pass and history will absorb him. Here the island narrows so much that there are literally a hundred meters between the two shores. This place is salo an excellent choice for camping. In the evening, the cloudy weather cleared up and at night, one could enjoy the view of the Milky Way, myriads of stars and the remnants of Persiad.
The second day turned out to be the most difficult and eventful. It was necessary to pass on land half of the island, studying the solonchaks and the steppe. Meanwhile the sun rose higher and higher. The further you go into the depths of the island, the more clearly the riot of local life is noticeable. You are literally walking in the footsteps of wild animals. Here a string of tracks of artiodactyls, probably roe deer, comes out to the salt marsh. Immediately, larger tracks are visible, apparently belonging to the mouflon. Among them are small tsyatochki, which probably left a raccoon. While you're looking at it, wondering when they will succeedit is so pretty to inherit, you imperceptibly meet face to face with the same animals. The meeting with the mouflon was so unexpected that for a second I forgot that I needed to take a photo. He stood and watched, unable to take his eyes off his most beautiful horns! Incredibly graceful and very beautiful animal.
Somewhere in the middle, when the road through the sand and through the tall grass, teeming with millions of mosquitoes, began to beat out of strength, the forester's house appeared. Here is another source. True, it is not very equipped, and in order to draw water, you need to be extremely careful. Not only people come to this source ... See the continuation in the source
