Day 4: Arakapas - Millomeris waterfall
For this day, I remember little - there was a long exhausting climb.
I had a problem with gear shifting: on these climbs, you can only go 1-1 and 1-2 speeds. However, lower than 1-4, my chain flew off and I couldn’t drive. After trying to set it up, it turned out to achieve normal operation at 1-3, at a lower one, the chain still flew off. In Ukraine, I didn't need to use speeds below 2-4, so I didn't know about the problem until I got to these climbs.
Toward evening we got to the fork in the waterfall. Without thinking twice, we decided to first see the waterfall, and then look for an overnight stay. On the way to the waterfall, I had to drop the height by 300 meters.
Millomeris waterfall is one of the three waterfalls in Cyprus, the largest.
The guys from the group were swimming in the waterfall, taking advantage of the fact that it was already the end of the day and the tourists stopped coming to look at the waterfall. Under the waterfall itself, the depth is about 2 meters.
The stone walls are protected by a metal mesh, which prevents the natural destruction of the walls.
We bought local ice cream near the waterfall (tasty, but nothing special compared to Ukrainian ice cream) and started looking for a parking spot. The mountain blocked the setting sun from us and it was getting dark quickly.
Parking found a couple of hundred meters above. The ascent was very steep and we had to drag the bikes and trunks on our shoulders.
The attendants set up tents, the rest of the group went down for water to the waterfall.
Today was the last attempt to ignite the gasoline burner. Looks like it's over, too bad. Well, we have gas and 2 cylinders for it - we should have enough.
The evening was magical. I have such a job that I work in the evening and at night and now I would be sitting at a computer in Zaporozhye, solving regular problems with the site, but instead I breathe mountain clean cool air and listen to the pleasant sensations in muscles that are tired after lifting. By the way, on this trip we often came across free wi-fi and I saw that they tried to write to me at work so that I could look and check something. Probably the authorities thought that I was somewhere on the beach relaxing on vacation and the laptop was not far away)
During the day we scored 1200 meters, the mileage was about 45 km.
