Day 7: Nicosia - Girne
We spent half the day exploring the capital of Cyprus. Very interesting city :) This city is interesting because it is divided into 2 parts by the border since the Turks captured part of Cyprus. Many streets are blocked by walls or roadblocks, which, as it turned out, my GPS did not know anything about.
As I understand it, these are Cypriot schoolchildren :) Teachers take children from all over the city and lead the group to classes on foot.
We found an art gallery, sorry the photo turned out to be smeared. I took a photo with my phone, but the lighting was not very good.
More from there.
Some kind of museum, we decided to go there.
And this is the entrance to the mosque, inside it was interesting. There is a small library with very old books.
Let's go to the checkpoint
Checkpoint between the Greek and Turkish parts of the city. We had to get from the Greek side to the Turkish side. From that moment, part of the bike tour began along the northern and western parts of the island, which belong to Turkey. The checkpoint passed without problems, showed the documents and that's it.
Little halt. Today we need to have time to get to the northern coast of Cyprus and find a parking lot there.
The sun is low, and we have yet to cross that mountain ahead. In fact, there is a road between the peaks, but there will still be a rise. On the way, I got into conversation with the locals, who let us get some water in eggplants. This is not a problem at all - the people are talkative and friendly)
We made it to the sea at sunset. The city of Girne is like a student town - many universities, walking students. There are many private mansions in the city. And tomorrow we will go to see the Girne fortress.
Our track for today, drove 42 km:
